Now I can have a lay-in
Throw the alarm clock out the door:
I don't have to worry
As I don't have to go to work no more.

I have waited for this day
So very long you see;
Because the daily trudge of my job
Was actually killing me.

So freedom beckons and the days seem long
How the hours am I going to fill;
I've got no idea yet, so far so good
But I know that I surely will.

Clocking on and clocking off
That is now days gone by;
When somebody is timing me
And looking saying"Why"?

Fresh air breaks should be compulsory
At least one every hour;
The boss said "True my friend
But nicotine turns it sour"!

I will smoke to my hearts content
But I know I ought to stop;
The doctor said I should you know
Otherwise short retirement I'll cop!

I've got to go 'cos I am really knackered
Ive always blamed it on everything else;
Pollution, age or the time of the month
But it's really that the work repulses.

My life will now be worth living
Being fruitful and having fun;
Spending time with those I love
Being in my garden sitting in the sun.

Forever, and forever, farewell, Cassius!
If we do meet again,
why, we shall smile;
If not, why then this parting was well made.
William Shakespeare.

It's Good...But
No more rush hour driving
To start and end your day
No more early alarm calls
But..much less pay
No more back stabbing
Or rising to the bait
No more phone calls from the boss
Asking you to work late
But...having to get by
On half your hourly rate
Now you have all day
To sit or doze to stay to go
Anywhere you like...
..cheaply
You've got less dough

Travel around the world
Do anything you've desired
But do it economically
Now that you're retired

An Ode to Old Age

There's quite an art to falling apart as the years go by,
And life doesn't begin at 40.
That's a big fat lie.
My hair's getting thinner, my body is not:
The few teeth I have are beginning to rot.
I smell of Vick's Vapo Rub, not Chanel No:5;
My new pacemaker's all that keeps me alive.
When asked of my past, every detail I'll know,
But, what was I doing 10 minutes ago?
Well, you get the idea, what more can I say?
I'm off to read the obituary, like I do every day;
If my names there, I'll once again start -
perfecting the art of falling apart.

The golf club days now melt into one
I don't know how I found the time;
To go to work and do odd jobs
Even when the sun does shine.

Time hasn't stopped or even slowed
I though that I'd have time on my hands;
It's going even faster now
The timer full of that sand.

My friends are what keep me sane
And it's good to keep in touch;
As friends and family are
The ones I love so much.
