Naming Ceremony Poems

You have joined this family to become
A member linked to all;
We have long since wondered
By what name you should be called.

Fred or Joe seemed far to old for you
As a dashing look you really have;
Patrick or James we weren't to sure
Neither of these are very suave.

Film stars names did cross our lips
But we're not too sure about them;
So that was when we hit on the idea
Of why not call you Ben.

So on this day "Ben" it will be
Forever and a day;
We welcome you to this clan
Full of love we pray.

Some of the names we've used since you were born
Are not appropriate at all;
In our exhausted moments usually around 3a.m.
A few names you were called.

Everyone has been full of ideas
So seriously we have been deep in thought;
Spending time poring over books
Giving serious study and time we ought.

But in the end after much debate
A film stars name we found:
So Jodie is the name for you
We like the name , we like the sound.

I wanted to start with I hereby
But that sounds like a ship;
So I think you look like a ......
I think that's pretty hip!

We don't mind if you change it later
It will be by what you want to be known;
It all depends on whatever sounds right
When over six feet you've grown.

As a Godparent who has taken vows for you
I will expect things in return;
Like some love and cuddles now'n'again;
My respect though you'll have to earn.

I know that goes both ways
I've to earn my carers too:
I hope you will approve
Of who your mum and dad did choose.

May God bless and keep you always,
May your wishes all come true,
May you always do for others
And let others do for you.

May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous,
May you grow up to be true,
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you.

May you always be courageous,
Stand upright and be strong,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.

May your hands always be busy,
May your feet always be swift,
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift.

May your heart always be joyful,
May your song always be sung,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.
