But honestly it's true;
It was only the other day
That I remembered your birthday was due.

It then has just flown away
To God knows where I'm sure;
But all my love and best wishes
Are winging to your door

Do not think I love you less;
In all the boxes I have looked
My new house really is a mess.

Of course, when you were born,
Things were pretty prolific!

I thought you said you were away this year
You didn't want a fuss you said;
If I'd known you were only joshing
I'd have got up out of bed.

I had no intention to defer
Your birthday to another day;
But it looks like I've missed it
Just what on earth can I say.

I could go on and on about this or that
But that just wouldn't be fair;
I had thought of making a story up
But then knew I just shouldn't dare.

So please just forgive me
I'll make it up I swear;
The new restaurant is booked for Thurs
